What are the title deeds to a property?
"Title deeds" is the everyday term for the official documents that prove ownership of a property or piece of land. For the vast majority of registered properties in England, Wales and Scotland, the modern equivalent is the Title Register and the Title Plan held by HM Land Registry.
The Title Register names the registered owner(s), records the price paid (where logged since April 2000), and lists any mortgages, charges, covenants or restrictions affecting the property. The Title Plan shows the property's general boundary outlined in red on an Ordnance Survey map.
